So Long, Farewell, Avedisian (142)

endings are always sad, to some degree
at least to me
closure of a sorts, beginning anew
time flew
smiles ingrained, a portrait of family
a classroom community
no hugs or waves goodbye
yet virtually we try
car lines of smiles
stretch back for miles
graduates and elementary
last looks before they are free
summer is here for most
not feeling like a toast
been missing them for weeks
with only Zoom peeks
distanced
quiet
hoping to see them again

farewell and so long
pouring in like a beautiful song
each with a flavor and quality
unique and special to me
students from years ago
sending in their solo
but the melancholy droops
an endless loop
students, teachers, parents
missing the main event

the last day of school
uneventful
even felt a little cruel
students feel lost
they feel the cost
of safety
but regret is loud
it rumbles through the crowd
but until the fall
it silences us all
we hope, we dream
school begins normally

goodbye
so long
avedisian
au revoir
I will miss you all
